About Ella Enchanted
“This refreshing take on one of the world’s most popular fairy tales preserves the spirit of the original but adds plenty of humorous twists and a spunky, intelligent female lead..”
– Kirkus Reviews
Ella enchanted is the retelling of the Cinderella story with Ella of Frell who was cursed at birth – by a foolish fairy called Lucinda – with the “gift” of obedience. Ella must obey all commands, no matter what they are. But rather than becoming submissive Ella grows up to be a rebel. After her mother dies Ella’s life is in danger and she must set out on a journey to find Lucinda so that the “curse” can be undone. Along the way Ella encounters dangerous ogres, friendly elves, and a charming prince. While the story includes many of the traditional elements of the Cinderella story it also reexamines the traditional female roles in fairy tales. Ella is a rebellious self-reliant heroine who rescues a prince, and finds her “happily ever after.”
